AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer American Imperial Stout

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  What do you call a beer made with holy water and smoked with vampire killing stakes?  In our eyes there is only one thing you can call it, Vampire Slayer from Clown Shoes Beer.  Normally this time of year in Arizona we are not even thinking about something this dark and heavy.  Unless of course we're talking about the monsoons!  But seriously folks, an American Double Imperial Stout is not normally on our hot weather drinking radar, but this beer seemed too interesting to pass up.  Brewed in honor of their second anniversary and available for only a limited time, this brewery already brings some great marketing and a backbone of previous goodwill from their other beers.  Let's hope this creature of the night isn't afraid to come out during the light of our podcast and show our palates a good time.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Kim Crawford Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Switching hemispheres and styles for the show today we head down to New Zealand.  Specifically the Marlborough region for the Kim Crawford Pinot Noir 2010.  Our first experience with this winemaker was with their Sauvignon Blanc which if you haven't had it, is very good and not to be missed.  Obviously these are different grapes varieties, but coming from the same region it will be interesting to see if any similar terroir comes through on the palate.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Badet Clement Co Revelation Chardonnay 2010

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Choosing not to commit a faux pas by having an imported wine week without something from France, we decided to begin there.  Today we have the Badet Clement Revelation Chardonnay 2010.  Available exclusively at Trader Joe's, this wine is designated as Vin de Pays d'Oc or "wines of the country".  At a Fearless Flyer price of $4.99, it's time to find out if this wine has flavors worthy of being labeled a Revelation.

What's on tap for the week of May 7th - May 13th 2012

Just a little reminder of what will be going on at AboutBeverages.com for the week of May 7th - May 13th 2012.  It's imported wine week here on the site and we have two very different wines to share with you.  It all starts Tuesday with a "Give It A Shot" featuring the Badet Clamet Revelation Chardonnay 2010.  This particular wine is designated as Vin de Pays d'Oc, or "wines of the country", and comes from the Languedoc-Roussillon area in Mediterranean France.  Then on Thursday we change hemispheres for a "Give It A Shot" featuring the Kim Crawford Pinot Noir 2010.  Grown in the Marlborough region of New Zealand, this is where most of the wines under the Kim Crawford label are made.  Make sure you're following us on twitter for all of our other beverage tastings and info.  Click the link here to get to our twitter page.  Also, don't forget to check out our channel on youtube and if you go to our website from your mobile phone you can also get our app!

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Boulder Beer Mojo IPA

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Colorado's first Microbrewery, Boulder Beer Company has come a long way since 1979 when their brewhouse was part of a small farm and shared space with some goats.  It's nice to know the beer we are trying today, the Mojo IPA, has that colorful background, but is brewed in a modern facility.  It has a similar ABV to the Dragoon IPA we had earlier in the week, but I have a feeling all similarities will end there.  I'm not sure how we did it, but we made it through this entire podcast without making a single Austin Powers reference.  Seems impossible.  It was just staring us right in the face.

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Dragoon Brewing IPA

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  The wait is finally over as Dragoon Brewery finally opened their taproom doors this last Friday allowing the public to purchase their first two beers, Dragoon IPA and Stronghold Session.  For the show today we will only be trying the Dragoon IPA, but hopefully soon we will get our hands on the other.  Coming in at just under 7.5% and using Magnum, Summit, Columbus, and Zythos for their hops, this West Coast IPA should bring the bitter, but will it bring something that makes it memorable?  Time to find out.

What's on tap for the week of April 29th - May 6th 2012

Just a little reminder of what will be going on at AboutBeverages.com for the week of April 29th - May 6th 2012.  IPA is the theme this week for both of our videos and it all gets started on Tuesday with a "Give It A Shot" featuring the Dragoon Brewing IPA.  The onsite taproom just opened for a limited time on Friday here in Tucson, AZ to dispense their first two beers, the Dragoon IPA and Stronghold Session.  If you're in the area please stop by and support your local brewery.  Then on Thursday we will have another "Give It A Shot" featuring the Boulder Beer Company Mojo IPA.  Remarkably even though we have had several of their beers in the past this is the first to have made it onto the website or in the Drink Database.  Make sure you're following us on twitter for all of our other beverage tastings and info.  Click the link here to get to our twitter page.  Also, don't forget to check out our channel on youtube and if you go to our website from your mobile phone you can also get our app!

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Oak Ridge Winery Three Girls Cabernet 2010

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  The answer to a trivia question you never thought would be asked, "What is the oldest operating winery in Lodi, California?"  Oak Ridge Winery is the answer and they just so happen to have a wine at our tasting table today.  Their 3 Girls Cabernet Sauvignon is only one of over a dozen different brands this family owned and operated winery produces.  Whenever I see wines from Lodi I can't help but think of the song by Creedence Clearwater Revival.  As a preemptive strike against the next question, yes you may hear that song in the video.

What's on tap for the week of April 23rd - April 29th 2012

Just a little reminder of what will be going on at AboutBeverages.com for the week of April 23rd - April 29th 2012.  After the last few weeks of beers, beers, and more beers we do an about face and try a wine for our only video of the week.  On Tuesday we will have a "Give It A Shot" featuring the Oak Ridge Winery 3 Girls Cabernet Sauvignon.  I'm always in the market for a good cab and hopefully this suggestion from my local Cost Plus fits the bill.  Although at $9.99 the bill wasn't too expensive.  Make sure you're following us on twitter for all of our other beverage tastings and info.  Click the link here to get to our twitter page.  Also, don't forget to check out our channel on youtube and if you go to our website from your mobile phone you can also get our app!

AboutBeverages.com Podcast: Give It A Shot - Mission Street Anniversary Ale 2012

It is time once again for our "Give It A Shot" podcast where we share with you, our valued listener, something we discovered that needs to be shared immediately.  If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.  Mission Street Anniversary Ale 2012 is the latest seasonal release from Firestone Walker exclusive to Trader Joe's.  There are several beers available under the Mission Street label including the Mission Street IPA which we have previously reviewed on a podcast.  They call this beer an Imperial Brown Ale which I think is stretching the boundaries a bit since this is actually a blend.  It's comprised of 40% Reserve Porter, 20% Russian Imperial Stout, and 40% of what is essentially a Barley Wine.  This is a very unique sounding beer we can't wait to try.
